Profile Study

Hi!
I've been fascinated by people's profiles for a long while now-sometimes when I'm in class I just find myself staring at people studying how their profile shaped-for example there are those where the forehead sticks out nearly as much as their chin, there are those whose chin is basically part of the neck so the forehead looks like it is sticking out a lot and then the reverse where there is basically a diagonal line from the back of the head until the eyes....
And I love how the profile is so different of people of different ages...
and I simply HAD to add thefacebook meme :D

PS: I went out the day before yesterday to get a permanent marker-don't you think it paid of well?! :D

My Folder...

Hi there!
So after yesterday's quick doodle-today we have a more sophisticated one :D It took me quite some time to draw this at school (free periods of course! :P-no seriously!) and I thought I would share it with you before it rubs off :)
There is a little story behind it-obviously because no, otherwise I would have not had the idea of drawing a person with a brain and patterns around him...:D
It all started with a good friend of mine writing "Gehirn" (or brain :P) on my folder...
Then a few weeks later I found a permanent marker in my hand and had nothing better to do than draw a border...
And then I was thinking what I could draw inside because obviously it doesn't make sense to draw a border around an empty space...I looked at my other friend sitting next to me and she pulled out her biology text book and the picture of the brain was found :) a few minutes later it could also be found on the back of my folder...but then I mean seriously? just a brain...not very creative-why not add a face to it?! No sooner said than done...
But then I felt that when you looked from far away the picture wasn't balanced-there was a lot in the bottom middle and nothing at the top, specially not the top right...yes-the hair came next...:D
And then-the patterns in the end were simply an act of boredom :D They took the longest and look the crookedest but I guess that's the price you pay when you don't use a ruler :P
So that my friends was the story of the picture on my folder and you can interpret into it whatever you like-(we already have a few versions-add yours by writing it into a comment! :D)
Sorry about all the dirty on the picture by the way-but I actually use the folder every day so the marker rubs off quite quickly and it gets dirty :D

Berlin! pt 2

And here are more pictures from the amazing city!
That's me with the Berlin Bear at the central station by the way!

Here's the German Reichstag...

And this is a decorated piece of the Berlin wall at Potsdamer Platz! I think it looks really cool but if you think abotu what it is you get more and more disgusted...:D A very clear way of expressing your disrespect for the divided Germany...

And this is my great cousin's awesome store near the Prenzlauer Berg where he sells amazing leather bags (see below!)

DAAAAh-I can't get enough of this awesome city!

Quick Braided Jersey Bracelet

Hi!
Another quick tutorial from me today :D It's a bracelet! (surprise surprise! :D)
Materials
Long strips of Jersey
Memory Wire
Pliers

 Step 1
Knot three strips of the jersey together. Slip the end of the memory wire into the knot and bend a little hook into it so it doesn't come out. You can hide the hook in some of the layers.
Step 2
Start braiding-incoperate the memory wire by going over and under it from time to time.
Step 3
Carry on until the end of the strips are near and tie another knot with all three. Do the same with the wire as you did at the beginning and bend the creation so it fits around your wrist!
Enjoy!

Chain Friendship Bracelet

And here we have the next DIY for you! What it basically is a chain bracelet with a piece of knoted thread in the middle! Really cool and really simple!
Materials
12 cm long piece of chain
1x80 cm thread
1x 20 cm thread
jewlery fastener
Step 1
Cut up the chain into two 6 cm pieces and connect them again using the jewelery fastener.
Step 2
Put both threads through the last loop of a chain and start knotting like in the picture below, the short threads in the middle.

Step 3
When you're at about 6 cm, thread the inside threads through the first loop of the chain on the other side and secure the whole thing with a knot. If you used slippery thread like I did a blob of glue helps to keep it in place. Make sure the knot is on the inside of the bracelet.

Enjoy!

Phone Pocket

Hey there!
I have another DIY for you today...
I recently got a new phone and I faced the problem of not having a stylish pocket (or any pocket in that matter) for it sooo as I'm sure many crafty people of you would've done I made my own..
It was a little complicated to record the process because some of the steps bitterly failed so I had to start a new...That's why I apologize in advance if some of the pictures aren't very helpful :D

Materials
Piece of thick non fuzzy fabric, 2 cm broader and 2cm longer than your phone
piece of fluffy stuffing with the same measurements of the fabric (optional)
lots of little strips of colorful fabrics
Needle and thread/Sewing machine and thread

Step 1
Put all your layers together-at the bottom the piece of fabric, then the fluffy bit and then the strips next to each other.
Step 2
Now so one each one of your strips by randomly crisscrossing from one side to the next-make sure you get the edges so you don'T have any floppy parts which will reveal the fluff.
Step 3
Fold the whole thing in half, so that the inside fabric is on the outside and sew together the sides until about 1 cm before the edge. Then fold it inside out so that the strips are on the outside and the fabric on the inside and fold the bits that are not sewn together to the inside and secure with a few stitches!

Enjoyy your new phone pocket! :D

The Flintstones

Hey Guys!
I cut up my t-shirt today...It had gotten pretty small but I had been in love with it for a long time-that's why I decided to upcycle it into something I could actually still wear :D (more on that tomorrow!). It was a Flintstones T-shirt and now I must admit, I never actually watched/ read (?) the Flintstones-I just liked the pink dinosaur on the T-shirt XD but I thought it deserved to be honored all the same so I started copying the banner from the shirt and here's the result :D
IT is not what I typically do on here-but I still liked it so I decided to post it anyway :)

Lady from the Coal Mine

Hi!
So this painting has a story behind it :D
I was watching Water for Elephants today (fairly good movie by the way!-even for the none-Robert Pattinson fans like me :D) and at somepoint they were showing the audience who were watching the circus perfomance. I fell in love with one of them, stopped the movie and did a quick sketch...Theeen later today I decided it was time for a little bit of painting so I took out the guache colors 'n brush etc and then well...I went a little crazy with the brown  (Yes brown..)paint so that she looked like she had just sprung out of a coal mine (Therefore the name...:D), all smeared with dirt...
So I loaded the pic on my computer, was looking at it....and thought what the heck-why does photoshop exist if not for these kind of things...soooo from the beautiful brown color it went purple! Here's what came out!
lol-I just always have to laugh when I see her....:D I think some of proportions aren't exactly right but I still kind of like her! :P

Chain Braid Bracelet DIY

Ok it is official-I'm in love with making jewlery :D After yesterday's chain piece we now have another one with a chain-this time it is braided though!
Materials
50cm long chain
50cm long piece of wool
4x 50cm of different colored threads
2 small metal loops
jewelery fastener
Step 1
Make a knot into your wool and your threads to keep them together. Then, on the long side of the knot, pull the threads and the wool through the last loop of the chain and make another knot. The easiest way to do the braiding is then pinning the whole thing onto your knee with a safety clip and then start braiding!
When the bracelet is long enough to fit about 3 times around your wrist pull the thread and the wool through the last loop of the chain again and make another knot. Then put one of the metal loops on the last piece of the chain and attach the fastener. Add the other loop on the other end of the chain.
And there you have it! Wasn't it quick and easy?-have fun wearing it!

And I bet it looks awesome stacked with all your other bracelets!

Hand Piece DIY

I'm becoming more and more obsessed!!! :D
Here is the next DIY!
Materials
Pliers
Chain
Long thin piece of fabric
Fastener for the chain
Cellotape
Step 1
Use the pliers to create the shape on the picture below using the plyer the chain. You can attach different part to one another, simply by opening one individual ring, putting the end of the chain you want to attach it to into the ring and then closing it again. The small circle will go around your index finger, the big piece on the right around your wrist.. Attach the fastener.
.
Step 2
Put a bit of cellotape on your thin strip of cloth to make a pointy shape which fits through the rings of the chain. Then thread the fabric through the chain.

And there you go-here's the finished piece!

(By the way-don't you think my mom is an awesome model?! :P)

I hope you're all doing good!
What I have for you today is a girl with a pout :D Theoretically this position is supposed to look sexy-I just think it is exposing your neck like that and prefer a smile :) Anyway-here's the picture!
I wanted to make the mouth competly red but then I didn't dare to so it stayed black'n white...
Enjoy your evening!

Abstract Woman

Hi!
So today's post is not very typical for me-I tried drawing a little abstract :D In our art class at school we are doing abstract paintings and I thought it would be interesting to do something like that here...
So this is what came out...basically what I tried to do is to divide a face into different sections (based on the shape of the face, shadows etc) which I would color independently-going systematically through the colors of the rainbow...
This is what came out....:D
What do you think?! :D

Middle aged man with Yorkie

Hey everyone!
I'm running a little late today so just two quick watercolor sketches of a man I meant on the street today ;) He was "middle aged" and walking (I'm guessing his wife's Yorkie). He seemed a little out of place all proper with the black blazer jacket and perfect hair with the Yorkie who had on a cute little red knitted jumper...:D

Guy in Khaki pants + doodle! :D

Hi!
Sooooooo yesterday I posted that guy in khaki pants right? well after I posted it I subconsciously picked up the black fineline and well....went a little wild...this is what came out!
I think it is actually kind of cool because it balances the light subtle effect of the watercolors with the clear blakc and white lines...at the end I added a little watercolor too even though I'm kind of regretting that...ah well :D

A black fineliner and my room

Hey!
I must admit this is quite an unusual post even for me but I took to heart an advice for improving your drawing skills I read somewhere recently-and drew what was around me....as it was in the evening so I was sitting in my room...
This is the result when you let loose a fineliner on a paper when drawing my room :)
 recognize it anyone? ;)
and as I was playing around with it in my photo editing program I suddenly had this...

I loved the "charcoal on blackboard"-effect!

Army circle skirt!

Hello there!
You people know how much I love contrasts and mixing different styles and ideas to make up completly new stuff-and this post is definetely a contrast!
The circle skirt below was inspired by the one I just finished making from a fabric than my awesome friend gave me for my birthday (I know that was a while ago but finally I used itXD) -thank you for that btw- it is a kind of brown/olive green like army coats used to be and very stiff.
Then one the blog Vintage Vandalism (to the left there is a link!) I saw pictures of amazing circle skirts and I immeadiatly know what the fabric was turning into :D
I love the contast between the truly femine skirt and the masculine fabric :D
xoxo Alex
PS: the girl in the picture is doing my favorite activity when I wear circle skirts-twirling!!! :P

Blond Beauty and the sketchbook :D

Well-welcome to 2013 my dears!
I hope you had a great new years and are as euphoric as I am about the new year! I'm currently reading a book about willpower (here is the link-I'm not quite done yet but until now it is an awesome book) and well it said that new years resolutions are not effective if you have many big ones but you should choose one which you then follow consequently...I wouldn'T be telling you all this if my goal for 2013 wasn't related to this blog so here it is-my new years resolution for this year is to improve the drawing skills :D
I will try to do more "drawing studies" (like the feet one I did in Oktober) so that you can see my progress over time :D
Anyway-we will not start the new year with that though-what I have for you today is a blond beauty :D
