Sleeping Beauty's Tower finished piece

It is done! :D I'm not sure whether I should make the little tower in the middle of the roses even darker or whether I hsould leave it like this, but looking at the time, I'm going to leave it-at least for today.

Sleeping Beauty's Tower-Feather drawing

In art class we were given the task of drawing something natural and a part of a building. I decided to finish it over the holidays and for some reason, it turned into a fairytale thing. It wasn't meant to be like this, but halfway through I realised, this is the setting of Sleeping Beauty!
At the moment I'm not entirely sure if I like it or not. Hopefully that will change soon ;)

Galeries de Lafayette

This is part of the roof of the Galeries de Lafayette in Paris. Pretty awesome. It is basically a huge fancy shopping mal and even if you don't like shopping (or like me, you can't afford all the expensive stuff sold there :O) it is still worth a visit just for the dome :)
This was a christmas present too by the way ;)

Urban Sketching- Cute House

Since I got this awesome book about urban sketching, I've been wanting to try it out. Maybe I'll make it a regular thing because I really love the concept! ;)
I started off with a pencil setch, then added the ballpoint pen, and jus now I added the color using watercolors at home. It is such a pity it didn't snow though! :D

The cat

This cutie pie wants to wish all of those who celebrate later for some weird reason merry christmas as well!
This is, sadly, probably the only member of the family who doesn't gain weight during the holidays. :D

Merry Christmas!

If you want to do a study on bare heads, I must say the holy mass at christmas provides a hell of a range ;)
Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates and to all those who don't, enjoy a wonderful night!
Lots of love!

Wool

So in art class, we spent about 10 hours drawing wool. Now this process had its ups and its downs, but I took it home this week and I thought I would show it to you. When you look at it closely it is really not very spectacular but from a distance it somehow comes together.
Oh and that cat was just out of pure boredom along the way :D

Sailboat ensemble

This fairly small & delicate drawing of a twomaster is part of a whole sailboat ensemble that I actually really like. I hope the other two will turn out okay too :D
Ships have turned into some of my favorite things to draw by the way. They are so fun, because you recognize them quite easily, whether you draw every single stupid rope or just the main shapes :D

Ticket girl (non messed up version XD)

Soooooo, yesterdays imperfection was bugging me a little more than I thought. So I did the pic again, and I think it turned out better this time.
This time it is in ballpoint pen too by the way :D

Ticket girl

This drawing went fairly quick. Something's off round around the nose/mouth area, but I'm already quite late so I decided I would leave it.  She looks a little bit like she has a cold :D
This is a drawing from my history booklet by the way. XD They really have cool pics, it isn't the first time I felt compelled to illustrate one of the historical photos I stumbled upon in history class!

Typography Series-Trying out fonts

So, judging by the amount of websites dedicated to this topic, I just discovered something that is really popular and cool, but for some reason I had no clue about before.
And those are free fonts on the internet... I just stumbled upon them basically and am totally in looove with the concept. You can get some here (and loads of other places, but this one was the one I thought was the coolest ;) )
So then I got a little carried away today. Here are the results.

(Have the courage to use your own common sense)

(If the facts don't fit to the theory, change the facts.)
Anyways-I have some drawings for you again tomorrow ;)

Typography/Lettering Series -Shakespeare

I've always been in love with well crafted graffiti. If it is well made, it is such an awesome way to embelish walls/trucks/trains or school worksheets for that matter. There is a real art behind it, that I've always wanted to actually try it out, but haven't done yet (that might be a project for the future!-what do you think? :D ). As I'm doing lettering at the moment,  I had to include some graffiti style stuff, and believe it or not, the 'Shakespeare' is actually my own writing! XD It took me quite a few inspiration and reference pictures but I'm quite pleased with the result.
I did the shape first by hand, and then added colorusing a filter in photoshop later..
The quote is from The Merchant of Venice by the way.

Indian Cow, the second

At school today I was sitting in class, thinking about what to draw (it helps me concentrate-I promise! :D) and I wanted to try to draw what I drew yesterday, but from memory. Drawing from memory is something really really hard for me because usually I do some research before I draw and find photo references. When you draw from memory, those references are in your head. What is really cool though, is that often, if you draw a specific object from a photo you look at it very closely, think about the proportions, how it all fits together-if you do this conciously, it is much easier to then recreate that afterwards. Basically that means, you should be drawing what you see all the time so that later when you draw something on your own, you have those visual references in your head and the drawing pops out of nowhere. Isn't that such a cool thought? Later when you've studied hundreds of different objects, you have like a database in your head ;)
oh and because my awesome, socially and politically engaged friend, was sitting next to me, I adden the nike sneaker ;)

Indian Cow

So we were out for Indian food today and there was this awesome cow chillin' on the table. I just had to draw it ;)
I'm experimenting wth different kind of shading at the moment, you can see that quite well at the heard. I'm in love with those really few, effective strokes, that make Gabriel Moreno's drawings for example, so effective...

Typography Series: Physics Quote

So I don't know, some of you might have noticed thta I like Physics. Today's quote is a physics quote. But an awesome :D It is by Einstein and even though I know, usually this blog is in English, I can't quote from Einstein in English. That would be weird. But the quote means something like 'When talking to a girl, 2 hours seem like a minute. When you sit on a hot oven for one minute, it seems like 2 hours. That's relativity.'
So here it is :D I did most of it with a 'coca cola font' which I found on the web. It is pretty cool actually, the only problem is, it can't to some German letters like the ä or the ß for example... so I had to improvise on those XD I think the dots on the 'a's worked pretty well, but the 'ß' was a fail. ah, well.
I should put this on a T-shirt and then wear it to my Physics exams. That would be pretty awesum! Aren't you proud how early I am today by the way?

Typography/Lettering Series-Adventure is not outside man

Sooo after yesterdays struggle I finally managed to write this quote. It is a lot simpler and different from what I had planned, but for some reason I still like it. After yesterdays experience, it became a lot clearer to me, why people study this stuff. It looks so simple, but I can promise you there is an incredible amount of work behind these kind of writings.
If you want to catch up on some reading about typography, I found some awesome articles, here and here. As I will be carrying on with research throughout this series, I'll be posting some links to helpful rescourses. I'm really actually starting to like this kind of creative work. It takes quite a bit of skill with technology, creativity and as we saw yesterday-a lot of endurance because at least for me it is pretty frustrating sometimes...
So anyway-enjoy the rest of your day!

Adventure is not outside man

You won't believe me how long I sat trying to figure out this f*$/&ing quote. So first I did it on the computer. Then I wrote this. Then I converted it to digitally change it. Then I started over digitally again. And then I looked at my watch. GRR so frustrated right now.
I'll try again tomorrow.

Typography Series-Always remember that you are unique!

Hi!
So after being told about 4 times today, that my handwriting was well, undecipherable, I decided that I needed to do something about that. That's how the typography series was born :D I'll be using mixed media for this series, so stuff that I wrote on the computer combined with handwritten parts aaaand will see how it goes!

I decided I would practise using inspirational quotes I like so here's the first one my Margaret Mead.
The middle part I did on paper and then photoshopped it and as you probably noticed, the top and bottom lines are both digitally written.
If you have any tips for me, or stuff that you think I should know or do please leave a comment below :D I'm always happy when people comment ;)

Magic Carousel

Yaaaay, I know actually have kind of a plan of how I'm going to do this! :D I don't want it to be completly naturalistic, that would be kind of...boring I think. I want some illustrative kind of features and color, I knew that. But now I know how I'm going to do it! :) I have to do some christmas presents in the next few days though, so it might take a while before I get back to this :D

Tiger Tiger

This was meant to be a study at first-but I wanted to see how it looked in fineliner so here you go!
I found the photo reference in our newspaper a long time ago and stumbled upon it while going through my inspiration photos :D

Magic Carousel, the second

I progessed quite a bit :D The horses are fuuuun though!
It doesn'T really look that spectacular yet because it is just like a pre-pencil drawing, so here's cute pic of my cat :D
I'm only posting  parts for the moment because it is quite big and because of the faint pencil lines you wouldn't see much... :) Full pictures will follow when there's color :D

Sonnet 80

Euphoria is something different, but I'm quite satisfied with this picture. Originally I wanted to display the galeon from quite a lowangled view, to make it seem even more superior to the little "saucy bark" (Thats a quote from shakespeare on here by the way! XD) but drawing a sail boat with all those sails correctly, from a different perspective than the one on your reference photo is freakin' crazy.
Anyway, if you want to read the rather awesome sonnet this picture is supposed to portray, go here.

Sonnet 80

In English class we are doing Shakespeare's sonnets at the moment and our teacher asked us to prepare one for the next lesson. I didn't particularly feel like standing up in front of the class and reading it, so I decided I would simply draw it instead.
It was more at random that I chose this one, I was on a site where all of them were listed, I just choose a number at random and I landed this awesome one. I really like it, maybe because I can identify myself with the I-narrator so well ;)

Literate Deer

I was experimenting today. I always wanted to try using different patterns and textures in my drawings, so here is my first go. The antlers are cut out form an old book with old-fashioned writing :D I really like the way it turned out! :D
