Museum Characters

Everytime I do this, I love it and I remind myself to do it more often. People always tell you to sketch people from life but you know how it goes, I rarely do. And it's always a challenge, especially in a museum were people move around change there positions and don't stay in the same place for a long time...The way I do it is that I look at the person, try do remember as many things about the general stature, postition and key features. Then I sketch it quickly and the people are usually gone by then. When I am home I then use these basic sketches and go over them in pen to give them more character and finish them from imagination.

I espcially like the guy on the bottom left ;)

Sketching

I Set myself Kind of a challenge when I did this. As you noticed I've been studying the work of Wilhelm M Busch These Last few days and he manages  to make figures and faces into characters. That was my goal, with These next few drawings. I had Photos from the newspaper and tried to illustrate the people, conciously changing things to underline character or stuff that you could count as style. Maybe you'll notice ;-) good night! I'm quite enjoying these exercises. Starting off with a copy is a great thing to get into the flow, and then working out a new, original pose is tedious but essential to make progress I think :) It's fun! :)

My grandma gave me a real treasure the other day. It is a really old copy of 'Heidi' (a German-or Austrian? children's story) with incredible illustrations by Wilhelm M. Busch. I'm sure I'll keep studying his work, here is a first sketch of this doctor he did :)

Halloween Party

Heyho :D So this took a long time :) and my cat sat on it, so now it is wrinkly but still it was important for me to finish this piece :) It isn't my favorite, but I still like it :)

More color on the sailor

I'm so sorry I've been neglecting this blog a little lately-I don't really have a routine in my life right now, so it's kind of difficult to post everyday-please bear with me! :)

Meanwhile I carried on coloring the sailor dude. I wanted to do more today, but I'm not sure what the best way to proceed is. More color on his shirt (I definetely have to do something about the shading there, it looks horrible-but what?) and I'm not sure whether to color the coral things on the anker either...:O

Similarly to yesterday I'm in need of sleep though, so good night ;)
