Evil queen

This turned to be more like an angular, evil face, than a soft beatufiul one. The hair evens it out a little though :) The other two are just random ;) I think I have a pose now though, so tomorrow I might have the beginnign of something sophisticated :D

Thinking dude

I discovered a pretty cool method today :D I did a few 60sec sketches in of people in class today and then tried to make a full illustration of one I liked. I  think I'll do that more often from now on, it's really fun and it takes the pressure off for making the sketches really good!
It's so horrible though. When I see these drawings which are basically from imagination, I'm never happy with them, there's always stuff I could have done a lot better-and they are basically just simple line drawings. I really want to keep this going in order for them to get better, so bear with me a little bit :D Hopefully they will improve! :)

Hair Study

In hindsight, I really don't know why I chose such an utterly ugly hairstyle to do this study in. I had to force myself to finish this...
So anyway, what you do to finish the hair is simply to fill in the section. First evenly with lots of lines going the way the hair does and then you just add some where the shadows and the dark parts are :)

Hair Study

Lots of people have been asking me of how I go about drawing hair. So in the next few posts I'll explain :D
First thing I do is, I divide it into sections. Dealing with it is much either that way, you can get the proportions right and if put down a wrong line here, that's okay because you can hide it quite well later one.

I had to cut the mouth off. Sorrry! It was horrrriiible!

 

It was a great practise for improvising hair and until the mouth came the face was quite okay as well...but then...I ruined it..

Fineliner Portraits

So a few days a go I discovered this awesome new technique of shading (Well new for me XD) and I really wanted to try it out on faces...I have come to the conclusion that I definetely need a lot more practise but then it might be pretty cool. What would you think of a character drawing series on here sometime? ;)

This was the only result I found remotely acceptable I'm afraid though.. :D

I'm making progress! It is a little bit complicated because on my reference photo she is wearing a black veil, and I do not know yet, whether I really want to make it completly black, so maybe I'll darken it quite a bit afterwards...

But I do want to make it dark, because otherwise I think it looses a lot of its expression...

Very cool new project, I wonder how this will turn out ;) I am noticing a very pleasing developement that my art is strating to get bigger by the way. This is the second piece in a row that is on A3 :D I'm proud! ;)

Drawing class today was fuun! Portraits! :D

They are a lot more traditional than the stuff I usually do and I must say, it was a cool experience-but that is not me, that's not my style. I like looking at them, but I don't like drawing them too much...

Soooooo, yesterdays imperfection was bugging me a little more than I thought. So I did the pic again, and I think it turned out better this time.

This drawing went fairly quick. Something's off round around the nose/mouth area, but I'm already quite late so I decided I would leave it.  She looks a little bit like she has a cold :D

This is a drawing from my history booklet by the way. XD They really have cool pics, it isn't the first time I felt compelled to illustrate one of the historical photos I stumbled upon in history class!

It is done. Finally. The work was getting a bit tedious in the last phases so I'm glad it is done.

I like how it turned out though. She is not the typical beauty facewise, but I still like her style and her hair ;)

  

Now there is only one more drawing to go for the exhibition on saturday! :) I can't wait!
